First Day Cover
On 9 April 2002, Great Britain issued a set of 5 postage stamps to celebrate the circus.
In February 2002 CIRCUS
UNLIMITED! was contacted by Dorothy
Radley
(a postmark collector) who asked us if we had our own postmark. Sadly, we don't but
Dorothy was kind enough to put us in contact with Philomena Sheridan (aka: Phil).
Phil is a collector too. She collects First
Day Covers.
Envelopes with commemorative postage stamps that are postmarked
on their first day of issue.
When you see her work below, you'll realise
that Phil is no ordinary collector.
She creates First Day Covers herself and just LOOK what she did
for us....

Phil says:
"I
have produced First Day Covers since January 1999.
I like to profile worthwhile groups and events through my covers.
When possible, I like to base them in and around the North West
of England but I do feature places further afield as well.
I produce the covers more as a hobby and I am an avid
First Day Cover Collector myself."
I am a member of GBFDC (The Association of Great Britain
First Day Cover Collectors).
I am also the present editor, printer and distributor of
their newsletter: 'First Day Coverage'.
I approached CIRCUS
UNLIMITED! to ask permission
to feature them on a First Day Cover
for the Circus issue of postage stamps because CIRCUS
UNLIMITED! do not use animals
in any of their circus acts. I am a great animal lover and I dislike animals performing in circuses".
We think Phil did a great job
and we're proud to have been the subject of one of her First Day
Covers.
Well done, Phil....and thank you from CIRCUS
UNLIMITED!
